On Twitter, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin had a good time, laughing at himself and asking the Twitterverse which non-Ethereum currency will be the most popular in 2035.
Buterin polled the Ethereum community on Twitter, asking which currency they want to rule in 2035 if it isn’t Ethereum.
“This is a poll for the Ethereum community. You awaken in 2035 to discover that 80% of all transactions + savings in the world are made in a currency other than ETH. Which one would you prefer?”
Cardano’s ADA taking the lead
Surprisingly, Cardano’s ADA was once in the lead, garnering 42% of the vote. However, with only a few hours remaining until the polls close, everything has moved, and a very predictable outcome is taking form.
In 2016, Wired described Buterin as “uncanny and perplexing,” at a time when Ethereum was gathering popularity as a viable Bitcoin competitor.
Buterin continues to divide opinion to this day. Not so much for his programming abilities as a coder as for his social quirks.
Michael Perklin, the chief of security at Ledger Labs, who has known Buterin for 11 years, remarked on his nonconformist laissez-faire attitude on life by relating an encounter with him:
A real oddball
“I saw him on the commuter train, and he was wearing Hello Kitty socks that were mismatched,” Perklin said.
“And he is the individual who is constructing the infrastructure that is posing a threat to the power structures of the world’s most influential financial institutions,” he added.
Whatever the case may be, Perklin said, “every true fan of Japanese pop culture knows Keroppi is the place to be. And, to a lesser extent, Doraemon, for those who are genuine oddballs,” he said.
Buterin also requested Twitter for the “most irrational attacks” of him at the same time as he posted the poll.
To get the ball rolling, he included tweets he’d read regarding his weight, resemblance to an alien, Bond villain, and school shooter.
