The Vivo S1 Prime serves as a rebranded version of the Vivo S1 Pro, which went official in India a few months ago.
Vivo has added a new entry in its mid-range portfolio as it officially announced the S1 Prime smartphone. The Chinese smartphone maker’s latest is a rebranded variant of the S1 Pro, which debuted in India and other markets months ago.
AMOLED and a diamond-like rear camera module
The Vivo S1 Prime features a 6.38-inch AMOLED screen, with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,340 pixels. While the phone’s front is positive glass, its frame and back are made of plastic. The phone measures 159.25 x 75.19 x 8.68mm and weighs 190.2 grams.
Nevertheless, the handset’s rear panel, like the one we’ve already seen on the S1 Pro, is easily the more attractive one we’ve witnessed to date. It sports a diamond-like module that houses a quadruple-camera setup.
The system is headlined by a 48MP wide camera with f/1.8 aperture, with PDAF support. Its auxiliary sensors include an 8MP ultrawide lens with f/2.2 aperture, a 2MP macro camera with f/2.4 aperture, and another 2MP used for depth-sensing. The setup also features an LED flash and supports HDR and panorama.
Housed in the phone’s tiny notch, on the other hand, is a 16MP front-facing snapper. This is the only difference the S1 Prime has over the S1 Pro.
Solid mid-range internals
The Vivo S1 Prime draws its power from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 665 chipset, with 8GB of RAM in tow. Its internal storage, on the other hand, has a single 128GB in it. The latter is also expandable via the device’s microSD card slot.
The S1 Prime phone is also listed with a 4,500mAh battery, with support for 18W fast wired charging, which juices via USB Type-C.
Achilles’ heel
The device also runs on FunTouch OS 9.2, based on Android 9.0 Pie. The accompaniment of a slightly-dated OS might very well be the Achilles’ heel of the device. Vivo is yet to reveal whether the device’s OS will be upgraded to the latest Android 10.
Other key features of the smartphone include an in-display fingerprint reader, dual SIM support, and crucial connectivity options such as Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC, and 3.5mm headphone jack.
Launched in Myanmar, the Vivo S1 Prime carries a price tag of MMK 389,990. The phone retails in two color variants – Jade Black and Nebula Blue. The phone’s international availability is still to be revealed.
