Vogue criticized for ‘disrespectful’ Kamala Harris magazine cover: ‘Is this a joke’

Share

Vogue is in hot water because Kamala Harris’ fans were not happy with her cover, and they blamed the magazine and accused it of being “disrespectful” to the first female vice president of the United States.

Vogue received intense backlash after several netizens saw Kamala Harris’ cover because, for them, it wasn’t as beautiful and fashionable as the other celebrities who graced the magazine cover in the past. Additionally, Twitter users felt that the magazine was being “disrespectful” to the vice president-elect.

Vogue slammed for Kamala Harris’ magazine cover

One netizen was very angry and demanded that Vogue change or delete the picture it used for Kamala Harris‘ cover because it was disrespectful. Apparently, the netizen did not approve of Harris wearing Converse on the magazine cover.

“Why do you have her in sneakers with my Sorority colors as backdrop?? This is DISRESPECTFUL to Kamala, my Sorors, and to black people! In no way this is how you shoot the first black VP or any VP for that matter. Pull it now!!!” a second user added.

“As a photographer that first photo seriously makes me cringe. Literally no artistic anything in that photo. Composition, colors, stance. Literally terrible. And coming from vogue? I don’t buy it,” a third user wrote.

Meanwhile, some questioned Vogue if it was joking. Another netizen asked why its cover for plus-size model Paloma Elsesser and Harry Styles were pointed while describing Harris’ as “unacceptable.”

A different user commented, wondering if it was a joke, and added that the cover was a poor representation of the VicePresident-elect who is a woman of color in power, and added that it was a “travesty.”

Vogue cover was just okay

While many were unhappy about the cover, several disagreed with them and approved of the picture because they agreed that what was shown was the VP-elect’s style.

One netizen reminded the others that what people saw in the cover was Harris’ style, and it was shot by a Black photographer who also captured Beyonce’s stunning cover in 2018.

Another agreed, stating that she was glad Harris’ sneakers were featured in the cover. However, she didn’t like the pink satin backdrop and the colors and lighting because they made Harris look washed out and “not the powerful woman that she is.”

Meanwhile, another reminded the others that Harris is more than her looks. For the netizen, what was featured on the cover should not matter because she earned her position of power. Also, it was not disrespectful. The same netizen urged others to be positive because Kamala Harris can wear whatever she wants as long as she gets her job done.

Another opined that it should not be an issue because Harris wears sneakers when traveling, and the cover probably had her approval.
