Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany lead the cast of WandaVision as Wanda Maximoff (also known as the Scarlet Witch) and Vision from the Avengers. The show’s timeline takes place after what happened to the Avengers: Endgame, but the series itself is played out like a classic TV show in the vein of I Love Lucy.
The teaser opens as a 1950s black-and-white sitcom where Wanda and Vision play husband and wife. Marvel calls WandaVision a “mega-event series,” so there clearly is more to what’s happening in these short scenes.
Further into the trailer and it’s clear that the telekinetic hero has done something to her world. It’s a bit confusing and enticing at the same time. The teaser also hints that it will address the obvious to Marvel fans. Vision died in Avengers: Infinity, so is this show about his afterlife? Or is this Wanda’s twisted imagination of her life with Vision?
According to Polygon, the series is supposed to set the pace and spring off to Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. Wanda/Scarlet Witch will be in this movie as well.
Marvel and Disney+ originally planned to release the series in 2021. Due to the pandemic, the streaming platform had to shake-up its line-up of new shows, making this the first Marvel program to debut on Disney+.
Jac Schaeffer, who wrote Black Widow, created the series, which will also star Kat Dennings, Teyonah Parris, Randal Park, Debra Jo Rupp, Kathryn Hahn, and Fred Melamed. Dennings will reprise her role as Darcy Lewis from the Thor franchise. Park will be reprising his role from Ant-Man and the Wasp.
WandaVision, however, isn’t finished with production. According to Heroic Hollywood, the cast and crew had a wrap party before the pandemic, but Olsen and Bettany were asked to return to the set in September.
The camera crew has been posting photos from the set on their social media pages, and Olsen was seen in Los Angeles for work. The sources, however, did not mention if her work would be for WandaVision reshoots.
The people behind the show are reportedly working double-time to finish work. Speculations are that the debut of WandaVision on Disney+ might coincide with the release of Black Widow in November. A release date announcement should follow in the next few weeks.
