Known for its several but distinct universes involving supernatural entities, the franchise shows growth with Heart of the Forest. Not to confuse with Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood, which is yet another game also in development.
The game, as it appears, revolves around the theme of controlling anger in the face of great adversity, involving man’s actions towards nature. But while often a depiction of negativity, the anger motif is presented in a more “positive” light here, setting a premise.
The video trailer announcing Heart of the Forest did not reveal much as far as gameplay nor to which platform it is headed. In place of scarcity, however, is a promise of a “full reveal” this coming July 2020.
Many would probably take the announcement with a grain of salt, with little information disclosed. But to take the video on face value, it appears to show authenticity, based on the quality of the rendering. Hardly a feat made by just a fan with the intent to deceive.
Nonetheless, there are also other telling signs that the shown footage is legitimate: the attributed developers in the showcase and the channel to where the video is uploaded.
As per video, Different Tales is spearheading the developing project. A company founded in 2018 by former The Witcher developers, Jacek Brzeziński and Artur Ganszyniec, with the aid of Walkabout Games. Walkabout being the channel that shared the video on the internet.
Both developers are not only experienced in developing games, but they also appear to be diehard fans of the World of Darkness franchise. Openly stating their involvement with its merchandise going way back into the 90’s.
Essentially a passion project, the Heart of the Forest is the duo’s way of giving back to a beloved franchise. One, which, as a company, claims it does best with “words” and “new stories.”
The idea, as it appears, goes in line with the franchise’s motto revolving around the retelling of old legends. The same thing that Different Tales appear to be doing in their current project with Heart of the Forest.
It is not just a game based on a werewolf that’s currently in the making for the World of Darkness. A vampire game based on a popular tabletop RPG and sequel to Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines is also in development as well.
