Apart from the new heroes and maps, Overwatch 2 will also bring in story missions for the game. In fact, this is the highlight of the sequel, and it’s what fans are looking forward to the most. Since revealing the game, however, Blizzard is yet to give more details about this new mode. Here’s everything we know about it so far.
For years, fans have begged Blizzard to expand the game’s story. All Blizzard gave in terms of story content in the game itself were the PVE missions during the Archives seasonal event. However, instead of moving forward, these missions delved deep into the past of some of the game’s characters.
Based on the trailers, the story missions are going to take players on a globe-trotting adventure to stop another Omnic Crisis and to put an end to Talon. So far, we’ve seen Overwatch travel to Numbani, King’s Row, and even Paris. In one part of the trailer, we see some familiar Talon characters arguing with one another.
What’s different in Overwatch 2 is that there will be a sense of progression for the characters. We’ve yet to see exactly how this works out, but based on the trailer; players can level up their characters and alter their skills. This is likely an exclusive feature to the story missions, and it will not affect the game’s PVP modes in any way.
From the trailer, we can see the extent of customization of the hero’s skills. For instance, Tracer’s Pulse Bomb can create a succession of explosions behind where the ultimate is used.
From the look of things, each of the missions in Overwatch 2 will be played by up to four players. In one scene, we see Lucio teaming up with Tracer, Reinhardt, and Mei. Blizzard could have missions with fewer playable characters, but we’ve yet to see this type of mission in action.
Fans are hoping that some heroes are going to be given their own highlights during these story missions.
Blizzard has been quiet about the possible release date of Overwatch 2, but many are expecting the developers to tell more details soon. Sure enough, fans are going to get their hands on the game’s story mode the moment it launches.
