Since being revealed last year, fans have been eager to know more about the Overwatch 2 release date, and Blizzard is yet to give us any details. Can the game launch later this year as fans want it to?
It’s been a long while since Blizzard has given us any major details about the sequel to Overwatch. However, what fans want to hear is the exact Overwatch 2 release date. While we don’t have an actual release date yet, we do have our predictions as to when the game will release.
Release date predictions
As per Forbes, the release date of the sequel could be when the Overwatch League is in season. Releasing it mid-season won’t do any of the teams any good for one particular reason. The sequel will add new a new mode, new characters, and new maps. The pros will need to prepare themselves for the new additions to the game.
Of course, we also have to consider that the new generation of consoles is coming later this year. Both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are definitely going to have Overwatch 2. For Blizzard, making the Overwatch 2 release date coincide with the release of the new consoles will do them good in terms of sales.
Despite the pandemic, Blizzard is still able to continue to work, albeit with limitations. If they are continuously working on the game, then a holiday release date doesn’t seem too far off.
What is ‘Overwatch 2?’
Overwatch 2 builds upon the foundations of the popular shooter and adds a lot of things to it. The most significant addition is the PvP elements which also pushes the story forward for the series. It’s what fans have wanted all along, and now, they get to have it in a mode that they can play with friends.
Apart from that, the sequel will introduce new maps and the new Push game mode. Of course, Blizzard will resume adding new characters once the sequel arrives as well. It’s going to be a major improvement over the previous game.
The Overwatch 2 release date feels partly shrouded for now. The least fans can do, is speculate as to when it will release. When doing so, fans will need to consider a lot of things, including the current restrictions on development. They’ll also have to find out if the release will benefit Blizzard and the Overwatch League.
