The release of Civilization 6 last week, confirmed the doubted leak of the Epic Game Store Free Game roster. But how likely will Borderlands: The Handsome Collection follow suit?
The Epic Games Store Free Game event for its 2020 Mega Sale has since been making headlines lately because of its surprising free game drops, not to mention its very low promotion prices.
The gaming community went wild over the release of GTA 5, to the point that servers went crashing. Last Thursday, Civilization 6 replaced Rockstar Games’ classic title.
However, all eyes widened with this reveal, as it confirmed a doubted leak last week. Micky News previously reported that a Redditor posted the Epic Games Store Free Game roster along with GTA 5 and the supposed respective releases.
Doubts loomed the leak, with other Redditors citing the alleged Epic Games Store website layout being a bit off.
Considering all these, how likely will Epic Games truly give out Borderlands: The Handsome Collection— a considered AAA title—for free to keep?
It’s been on sale for too long, given free on other platforms
Almost a year ago, Sony already gave Borderlands: The Handsome Collection for free for its PlayStation Plus members.
Right now, it’s actually 74% off on Steam, and 67% off on Humble Bundle.
Furthermore, 2K has been very generous lately as well, offering the Borderlands collection—along with NBA 2K20—at a very low bundle price for charity causes. It recently partnered with Humble Bumble last month to promote playing together inside amid the global pandemic.
Its successor, Borderlands 3, was on sale for US$3[AU$4.59] on PlayStation 4 and Xbox last March. Meanwhile, last June, Borderland: The Handsome Collection was also on a three-dollar sale—that’s 95% off its retail price.
Reports claim it was a strategic move to hype up the then-upcoming release of Borderlands 3. This highly anticipated free game drop might also be a move to gather more players, as the game franchise slowly expands outside the exclusivity of the console platforms.
Basically, it was evident that the game collection is going to be given away for free someday soon—as soon as next Thursday, it may seem.
What does the giveaway entail?
Borderlands: The Handsome Collection actually includes Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel. PC Gamer further notes the inclusion of all the DLCs for both titles.
For those who aren’t familiar with the game franchise, it is a series of FPS RPG video games with a fantasy setting—centered in space with a western science twist.
Borderlands may not have a wide community base compared to GTA 5, but the gaming community is still expecting a similar server fiasco once the game truly gets released on May 28. Further Reddit threads have been confirming that Borderlands: The Handsome Collection will indeed be the next free Epic Games Store title drop.
We’ll all find out this Thursday, so stay tuned for more updates!
