Why ‘Genshin Impact’ is the game people need while waiting for ‘The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2’

Genshin Impact is now out for the PlayStation 4, PC, and mobile devices. It may not seem much for a free game, but those who are eagerly waiting for The Legend of Zelda Breath of the  Wild 2.

miHoYo’s Genshin Impact is the current talk of the gaming community as it’s pretty great for a free-to-play game. Those who are waiting for The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 may want to try this game as it has a lot of similarities with the original Switch blockbuster.

After the controversy

When Genshin Impact was first revealed last year, it was heavily criticized for looking like and feeling like The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. Fans of The Legend of Zelda game teased the game for being a complete knock-off of Link’s most recent outing, but Nintendo took the game well.

Eventually, a Switch version was announced for the game. Although a release date hasn’t been given yet, fans believe that will come before the year ends. Just what exactly makes Genshin Impact worthy of being called a Breath of the Wild clone?

Gameplay similarities

The most noticeable similarity between Genshin Impact and Breath of the Wild is the explorable world. miHoYo’s action RPG features the same exploration mechanics, which include swimming, climbing, running, and gliding. All of these actions come at the expense of stamina.

Like in Breath of the Wild, the map is gradually explored. Players will need to interact with certain structures in Genshin Impact to reveal the region’s maps. How the world works and feels is a great way to pass the time while players wait for The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2.

Apart from the game’s world, there are many other features that miHoYo borrowed from Breath of the Wild. For instance, there’s a very similar mechanic to how gathering ingredients and materials work. Players can also cook recipes that provide them buffs.

In terms of dungeons, Genshin Impact also has Temples, which serve as mini-dungeons. These have puzzles and combat challenges for players to accomplish too. Perhaps the biggest difference between Genshin Impact and Breath of the Wild is that there are leveling mechanics and a gacha system in the former.

Genshin Impact is out now and is free-to-play. Nintendo admits that the wait for The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 is still going to take a while. Perhaps it’s best to try this game first while the news is still far off.
