Why ‘Ghost of Tsushima’ could be the Game of the Year

Share

After The Last of Us 2 last month, the PlayStation 4 will get another fantastic exclusive. This time, it comes in the form of Sucker Punch’s biggest game yet, Ghost of Tsushima.

There’s a lot of hype behind Ghost of Tsushima, and fans have every right to be excited about it considering what we’ve seen so far. Fans are even claiming that it’s going to be an instant Game of the Year candidate. We got a ninja game as the Game of the Year last year, so why not a samurai game this year. Here’s why the game could be the best one in 2020.

Graphics as best as they come

The game is the last exclusive release for the PlayStation 4. It should not be surprising that Sony and Sucker Punch are going all out when it comes to the game’s visuals and art direction. Since we’re transitioning into the next generation by the end of this year, Sony will want to go out with a bang.

Everything from the game’s world to the animation of Jin Sakai and the Mongols is beautiful. Just recently, the developers showcased the start screen of the game, which is beautiful and simple as well.

Best combat system so far

Sucker Punch wants to put a lot of emphasis on the game’s swordplay since Ghost of Tsushima is a samurai game. The developer recently detailed their key principles in making Jin Sakai’s katana skills feel as realistic and as smooth as possible. The game features a sleek combat system that focuses primarily on timing and precision over combos based on the trailers and gameplay footage.

A big world and amazing features

The game takes place on the island of Tsushima, and players can fully explore this island on the get-go. Players will be guided by various visual cues such as gusts of wind and foxes when exploring the world. Waypoints won’t be available, so these visual cues are a subtle way to guide players.

Aside from that, the game features an in-depth character customization system that allows them to tinker with Jin’s skills, weapons, and armor.

Ghost of Tsushima launches exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on July 17. It’s going to be this month’s most significant release, so players will need to pre-order the game if they want to assure they get a copy of it on day one. This is going to be Sucker Punch’s biggest game to date as well.
