Blizzard’s action role-playing hack and slash mobile game, Diablo Immortal, has been announced in 2018 but the updates are little to none since then.
It has been a while since Diablo Immortal was announced by Blizzard, in partnership with NetEase. The last heavy update that the gaming community saw was during Blizzcon 2019.
Per ScreenRant, Diablo Immortal is not as “terribly exciting” as the upcoming Diablo 4 to longtime Diablo fans. Nevertheless, with many promising mobile games slated for release, it is interesting to see where this mobile MMORPG stands. It might even surprise the non-believers.
A poster for ChinaJoy 2020 hints the Diablo Immortal release
A ChinaJoy 2020 promotional poster was uploaded on Reddit a few days ago. A few details that are worth noting are the event’s inclusive dates—July 31 to August 3—and its participants, Blizzard Entertainment and NetEase.
It is hard to say for a certain that the characters on the poster are related to Diablo Immortal, but its awaiting fans can hope. The Redditors discussed the likelihood of Blizzard launching the game first in China, as the country has the “biggest mobile game market.”

There’s also the factor of getting a better public appeal to consider, per one Redditor’s comment. The Gamer did highlight that many of the Diablo fans “booed” Blizzard’s announcement of the mobile game during E3 2019. Of course, it also had something to do with fans expecting a Diablo 4 announcement and not a mobile-only title instead.
With most of its player base coming from the PC platform, the mobile game expansion wasn’t taken as warmly as the devs had hoped. So most probably, this is more of breaking the news gently to a kinder audience.
Although, other Redditors slammed down on this speculation as Blizzard announced the mobile game first in North America, so it is only fitting that it gets released in North America first as well.
The ChinaJoy 2020 dates might be something to take into account, as the day after that, August 4, is Activision Blizzard‘s second-quarter financial results for the year.
Another recent Reddit post also hints that the makers will likely give an update to the game’s status, even if it is just the test launching of Diablo Immortal.
What is Diablo Immortal?
Diablo Immortal is set on a series of events that happened in between the timeline of Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction and Diablo 3. Accordingly narrates the “untold” story of the Diablo saga.
The story if the mobile game reads, “In Diablo Immortal, the fragments of the Worldstone corrupt the land, and demonic invaders pour into Sanctuary.”
So, per the official website’s timeline, the events that transpired happened after Diablo’s brother corrupted the Worldstone, which forced Tyrael to destroy it (Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction) and before the ancient prophecy was revealed that it was the “end of times.” (Diablo 3).
As always, readers are advised to take speculations and rumors with a grain of salt. ChinaJoy 2020 is only a few weeks away, and fans will get the answers soon.
