The launch of Overwatch 2 is rumored to be a few months away from now, but most of the game is still kept under wraps. Players still have a ton of questions left for the anticipated follow-up to the successful Overwatch.
Blizzard’s most anticipated title yet is Overwatch 2. The sequel is said to bring a ton of new upgrades to the game, including new game modes, new heroes, new maps, and, most importantly, a PVE story mode. That being said, how will Blizzard be able to handle PVP and PVE aspects of the game?
More focus on PVE?
Former Overwatch League Pro Brandon “Seagull,” Larned says that Blizzard will most likely have more focus on PVE for the sequel. As per the pro, a PVE mode “better appeal to all the casual players who love the Overwatch universe, but stopped playing because they don’t want to play PvP.”
This does seem like a valid argument. Over the years, Blizzard has launched many cinematic shorts for Overwatch, which told the stories of the heroes. Fans of the game found these very great, and even those who didn’t play Overwatch saw the appeal.
What will PVE have?
For years, Overwatch players have urged Blizzard to move the story forward. However, all Blizzard has done was tell more about the past events.
All of which leading up to the present in the game’s lore. For Overwatch 2, Blizzard will proceed with the story, which includes the reformation of Overwatch.
Based on the trailers, the PVE element tells the story of a second Omnic Crisis to which a new group of Overwatch heroes will respond. The new team is comprised of original Overwatch members, Tracer, Winston, Reinhardt, Genji, and Mercy. Joining them are Mei, Brigitte, Echo, and Sojourn.
The PVE mode will be a globe-trotting adventure. We’ve seen that it will take players to new regions, including Rio De Janeiro – the hometown of Lucio. Other than the story about the organization, the PVE mode will also dive into individual storylines such as Genji and Zenyatta’s mentor-student relationship. As such, players are very excited about what’s to come.
Regardless of what Blizzard plans with Overwatch 2, fans are sure to be excited for it. There will be a ton of new changes coming in the sequel. However, fans are mostly excited about seeing how Blizzard hopes to change up the direction of how they move forward with the series.
