A dramatic version of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
Aside from the reunion special, the ’90s sitcom will also be rebooted based on the viral dramatic trailer Morgan Cooper made last year.
According to Forbes, this reboot will be far different from the show’s original comedic theme. It will have a dramatic set-up, featuring its more serious side.
The reboot will focus on issues the six-season series touched upon before, like parenthood, relationships, sport, education, and more. It will also highlight the race and plight of being a Black man living in the U.S.
The viral YouTube post, which circulated online in March 2019, was reportedly enough to get Smith’s attention. He will be executive producing the dramatic The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, along with Cooper.
The 51-year-old actor even called the idea “brilliant,” saying the dramatic version would be for the next generation. Of course, it would still feature some of its comedic sides.
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air helped build Will Smith as a global star and his other castmates. Overbrook Entertainment and Universal TV will produce the series alongside its original creators and executive producers Quincy Jones and Benny Medina.
