Microsoft will unveil the cursor improvement along with text to speech and other innovations. The said enhancement comes on Windows 10 May 2020 Update.
Microsoft revealed that it is expanding the cursor improvement it previously added to all Windows 10 devices. Now the software giant brings the enhancement to the text cursor as well.
A previous update paved the way for a customizable standard mouse cursor on all Windows 10 devices. Users had the option to depart from their usual cursor and explore different colors and sizes for their screen buddy.
Windows 10 May 2020 Update option to customize the text cursor
Microsoft’s Windows 10 May 2020 Update extended the option to customize the text cursor. Reports say that this could be helpful for users with impaired or irregularity in vision to make the cursor more eye-friendly.
Users with eye conditions no longer need to struggle with the traditional thin-lined text indicator. They may now adjust the size, thickness, and color of the text cursor that makes finding it on a congested screen easier.
Along with the said enhancement users may also find that the magnifier tool is following the text cursor in the middle of the screen. Windows 10 previously introduced the update that included the magnifying tool following the cursor zooming in the item it lands upon.
Aside from making the text cursor more visible through customizations, Microsoft even made an easier way of finding it from the display after being idle. Instead of looking all around the screen, the magnifier tool will automatically start where the text cursor is upon being active again.
Windows 10 text-to-speech improvement
Another function that comes along the Windows 10 May 2020 Update is the text-to-speech feature. Once the cursor heads over an icon, the said feature will read the name aloud.
The text-to-speech function mentions specifically recognized apps such as Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Word, Outlook, and Powerpoint by their names. The feature is also capable of recognizing and reading browser texts aloud.
Windows 10 added controls such as Play, Pause, Next sentence, Previous sentence, and Read from here on the magnifier tool. This makes the text-to-speech function more efficient and reduces the eye strain and fatigue caused by frequent looking on the screen.
Windows 10 May 2020 Update added improvements to the narrator function as well. Unnatural pauses were eliminated making way for a more natural reading sound.
Microsoft added sound effects for added support to some words. The said function makes it easier for users to be more familiar with comparing new sounds versus words.
The user has the option to turn off the sound and have the words read or turn off the words and replace it with the sound. Windows 10 update also brings improvement for announcing the capital words and letters.
