WINNER’s Kang Seung Yoon, Song Mino are now full members of KOMCA

On January 27, the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA) declared the promoted songwriters to full members this year.

The Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA), a non-profit copyright collective, aims to enhance Korea’s music culture.

It is by protecting copyright holders’ intellectual property rights and guaranteeing ease of use for listeners.

Established in 1964, the organization still maintains a database of copyrighted pieces and intellectual property holders.

KOMCA promotes songwriters to full members

KOMCA allows any copyright holder to join them as a “junior member”. Only 25 junior members will be chosen by the board of directors each year to promote to the “full members” status.

Meanwhile, 22 select-members were from the mainstream category. The other three are from the non-mainstream variety.

Furthermore, the promotion to full member status includes the following requirements:

  • selected as a junior member by the board of directors,
  • keeping membership as a junior KOMCA member for three or more years; and
  • receiving a certain amount in royalties each year from their copyrighted property.

Becoming a full member, KOMCA grants the artist the right to vote during the organization’s general meetings.

The junior members moving forward

Many junior members were promoted to full members of KOMCA this year, including WINNER’s Kang Seung Yoon and Song Mino, Changmo, Loco, Sunwoo JungA, Maktub, Roy Kim, and more.

Moreover, also included in the list are Go Hyung Suk, who created Baek Yerin’s Maybe It’s Not Our Fault and wrote songs for CHEEZE and Car, the Garden, and Lee Joon Ho, who composed Yoon Jong Shin’s Like it.

Kim Hyun Woo wrote Paul Kim’s Every day, Every Moment, and Jung Je II, a famous music producer who composed and arranged various hit songs like Park Hyo Shin’s Wild Flower, also added to the list.

The artists who became full members of KOMCA includes BTS’s RM and J-Hope. Also, Jay Park, Paul Kim, Giriboy, and many more are on the list.
