The coronavirus pandemic has once again taken a toll on the entertainment realm. Warner Bros, one of the giants in the film industry, has decided to reshuffle its premiere schedule. Unfortunately, one of the upcoming releases which were affected by the sudden change was the superhero movie Wonder Woman 1984.

Gal Gadot confirms new release date

Wonder Woman 1984, which was originally slated for an August 14 premiere, will now hit theaters on October 2. Gal Gadot, the returning star for the sequel, confirmed the news with optimism. She wrote on her official Twitter account:

Patty Jenkins reaction to film’s delay

The film’s director, Patty Jenkins has also graced fans with positivity despite the disappointing news. She posted images of theaters advertising the new release schedule of Wonder Woman 1984 via Twitter. Jenkins further stated:

“Wish we were sharing our film yesterday but there are more important things going on in our world we’d rather you focus on for now. Thank you to our fans for being so great, by our sides. Can’t WAIT for you to see it! Sending love and healing to the world. See you October 2nd!!”

Wonder Woman 1984 plot

Wonder Woman 1984 is the next iteration of Wonder Woman. The story will take place in the U.S. and will feature the historical adventure of Diana Prince going up against the forces of the Soviet Union during the Cold War.

Moreover, Diana, along with Steve Trevor, will go against the villains Maxwell Lord and Cheetah. However, it is uncertain how exactly they came to blows with the antagonists or how Steve miraculously returned.

Anticipation is certainly high for the film, and the director has promised some pretty remarkable scenes that could even rival Wonder Woman’s best sequence, No Man’s Land. Jenkins told Variety:

“I have a scene that is in this movie that is totally different, but it’s my No Man’s Land scene, where it is that there’s one scene that I am so excited about.”

Wonder Woman 1984 cast

Warner Bros. confirmed that Gal Gadot would return in the next movie to play the titular superhero. Chris Pine is also set to reprise his role as Steve Trevor.

In addition, the film has cast newcomers such as Kristen Wiig as the archeologist Barbara Ann Minerva/Cheetah and Pedro Pascal as the media entrepreneur, Maxwell Lord.
