Get ready to explore all the new levelling zones coming to World of Warcraft: Shadowlands when launches this November.
After a series of delays, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is finally gearing up for its much-awaited launch. And now, Blizzard is teasing the game’s fans with four new trailers showcasing the expansion’s new regions.
World of Warcraft: Shadowlands new regions
Blizzard has already made it known to players that four new regions are coming to World of Warcraft: Shadowlands. It’s not really much of an unveiling since Blizzard already introduced players to these new regions in their Afterlives videos.
But for the uninitiated, the Afterlives is basically a series of videos depicting the new regions coming to Shadowlands namely Ardenweald, Bastion, Maldraxxus, and Revendreth. Because Shadowlands is the realm of the departed, four deceased characters anchor the Afterlives videos.
In Ardenweald, viewers got to see what happened to the bear god Ursoc after his corruption and eventual death at the hands of Malfurion Stormrage. His soul departs to Ardenweald and becomes a new seed awaiting rebirth. In Bastion, a Kyrian helps Uther Lightbringer seeks “justice” by throwing Arthas Menethil’s soul into The Maw.
Draka, Thrall’s mother, becomes an agent of the Necrolords in Maldraxxus and Garrosh Hellscream is tortured in Revendreth to atone for his crimes while serving as a “workhorse” for the Venthyr.
All four of the cinematics portray a deeper problem within the Shadowlands that causes a deficit in the anima. This, in turn, causes the realms to wither.
Just days before the launch of Shadowlands, Blizzard has released four new trailers highlighting the game’s new regions. While the Afterlives cinematics showcase the problem occurring within the Shadowlands, these videos didn’t really explore the realms that much. But the new From Above trailers provide a general look for all the new regions players will soon venture into.
These new trailers also provide more hints at the Covenants for each region. Covenants are powerful groups in the Shadowlands that preside over the regions. These are the Kyrian (Bastion), Night Fae (Ardenweald), the Necrolords (Maldraxxus), and the Venthyr (Revendreth).
All of these covenants are responsible for extracting anima and guiding the souls and preparing them for rebirth. Players venturing into the Shadowlands will not necessarily die on World of Warcraft. Instead, they will represent both the living and the dead and join a Covenant that appeals to their nature.
The Arbiter, responsible for judging the souls and assigning them to a region, has gone silent. Sylvannas Windrunner, in partnership with The Jailer, has perpetrated crimes that caused great death and suffering to the land of the living. Furthermore, the natural cycle of death has been disrupted.
Because of this, souls meant to go to the four regions are instead funnelled straight into The Maw. This includes those that had died in the Burning of Teldrassil. With the cycle of death broken, and the Shadowlands starve for anima, the Alliance and Horde must strive to enter the realm of the departed and help uncover The Jailer’s sinister plans.
World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is all set for release this coming November 23, 2020.
