World War Z: Aftermath releases today and carries with it perks from backwards-compatibility on next-generation platforms.
World War Z has finally gotten a sequel. Following up on the 2019 title, Aftermath offers a familiar, yet improved, version of the original. As a co-op shooter, killing zombies in hordes remains at the new title’s core mechanics, involving other players or AI. Aside from enhancements from the original, the sequel also brings in something new to the table. This comes in the form of additional maps, stories, and even mechanics to explore and take advantage of.
New Features
Players who are seeking something new from the original will not be disappointed. Adding some spice to the tried-and-tested formula, Aftermath introduces a new player class, weapon tinkering, progression paths, and melee combat. Making for an official first also is the addition of first-person mode, which complements the game’s original third-person design. Essentially, giving players a new perspective at how the game is experienced.
The game is playable on multiple platforms, including the PC. However, the real highlight comes in experiencing it in a more modern hardware due to overall better performance and unique features. For PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, this meant getting a smooth 60 FPS at 4K display resolution via backwards-compatibility support. That’s a sleek performance on a relatively large display.
Official Launch Trailer
To coincide the zombie shooter’s official release, Saber Interactive has released a short trailer. It showcases some things that viewers can expect from the game. But while not everything in the video is informative, the developer takes it into account to leave other substantial info in the video description. It is through there that we are informed about the game’s important details, like its pricing.
Speaking of which, the game comes at a price tag of $39.99 across all supported platforms. Alternatively, anyone seeking for more content with their purchase can opt for the Deluxe Edition at $49.99. It comes exclusively with some bonus weapons and skins. But anyone who already pre-owns World War Z: GOTY Edition is entitled for a cheaper purchase at $19.99.
Interestingly, early 2022 would prove to be an exciting time for World War Z: Aftermath due to some slated surprises. In particular, a full-on next-gen release as well as the Horde Mode XL feature. Until such time, players will have to enjoy the game at better performance in either PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.
