WoW: Shadowlands now has more pre-sales than any World of Warcraft expansion ever. Except for the launch title, it’s now the most anticipated add-on for WoW.
Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick revealed in an earnings call that players are engaging with WoW: Shadowlands. The expansion is the hottest the franchise has been for over a decade now.
These numbers speak of the thirst that the enduring community is waiting for.
Shadowlands is a return to form for World of Warcraft
Shadowlands is a hotly anticipated addition to the enduring MMORPG. For years now, players have patiently awaited the expansion for many reasons. It’s the first time people are caring again about World of Warcraft.
Many dub the expansion as a return to form for the franchise. Beyond the new raid dungeons and extra quests, it also moves the story of WoW forward. There’s much content for both old and new players alike.
“We’ve seen unprecedented engagement trends since the [World of Warcraft] subscriber base doubled following the launch of Classic last year,” said Kotick. “Pre-sales of the upcoming Shadowlands expansion are the highest we’ve seen at this stage ahead of any release.”
In World of Warcraft’s 16-year history, this is the best-selling expansion so far. While it pales compared to the game’s launch sales, it stands tall against every expansion since.
The game resolves a ton of game issues, ties a ton of lore, and adds many things to do. It also adds new features unlike anyone has seen in the game. Players can also play the game solo or with friends, making it super accessible to everyone.
New Warcraft friendly to newbies and solo players
WoW: Shadowlands is hotly-anticipated for a reason. Players want something new from the franchise, and the lore needs to tie up at some point. The audience is also thirsty enough for something new on the franchise.
“Franchise engagement is at its highest level for this stage ahead of an expansion in a decade,” noted Activision Blizzard COO Daniel Alegre.
Kotick also added that World of Warcraft is among the top earners for the company. The other top earner from the entire Activision Blizzard line includes Call of Duty.
Nothing is also breaking the hype for Shadowlands, considering it delayed its release. The game is now coming this November 23, almost a month after its supposed October 27 release. Delays happened due to much-needed “polish.”
WoW: Shadowlands is still available for pre-order, and it’s the hottest expansion so far. It will be an excellent game for both newbies and old fans of the franchise.
