Xiaomi’s latest custom Android user interface introduces a visual overhaul, new animations, revamped dark mode, and beefed-up privacy controls. Plus, find out if your device is eligible.
Xiaomi has officially announced the MIUI 12. Like clockwork, the Chinese tech giant unveiled it on time, right beside the new Mi 10 Youth 5G. The latest custom Android user interface from the firm, which is still based on Android 10, introduces a slew of updates, from an improved dark mode, down to bolstered privacy controls.
A visual spectacle
In terms of visuals, the MIUI 12 now features a new app launch, alongside closing animations which Xiaomi claims to be faster and more seamless than the previous generations. The company has also revamped the Dark Mode to another version. The new rendition now comes with wallpaper dimming and font adjustment, both intended for eye strain reduction.
Apart from these, Xiaomi also introduced new live wallpapers. One of these reveals a wallpaper which zooms in from space view down to an aerial shot each time a user unlocks his phone. A new Always-On display functionality is also shown, besides the floating windows which allow users to keep small app previews open on top of a full-screen content.
Stronger privacy control
Another highlight of the MIUI 12 is its beefed-up privacy management. The improved feature now allows the phone to keep track of the apps’ behavior, right with functionality that lets you show apps that abuse permissions. There is also a new virtual ID security protocol which bars suspicious apps from accessing crucial details from your smartphone.
Other critical updates of the MIUI 12 include the AI Calling, which can transcribe calls and initiate responses when users are subjected to conversations, and the Mi Health, which intended to provide improved activity tracking, thanks to its new AI algorithms.
