Xiaomi powers through the clutter, takes on Apple and Samsung head on

Xiaomi is positioning itself to take the high-end smartphone market by storm. They are planning to one-up Huawei and Samsung in the megapixels game.

We have seen some promising gadgets launched by Huawei and Samsung during the first quarter of this year. The second quarter is quieter than usual while it coincides with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nevertheless, the rest of the year looks promising for phone launches. This is especially true for the fourth quarter slate when Xiaomi is reportedly launching its super powered phone.

Megapixels chess match

The Huawei P40 series is touted as Huawei’s photography phone series as the “P” letter would suggest. Its launch early during March was well received considering that it almost happened in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic at a time when several countries were under lockdown.

The five-camera setup of the Huawei P40 Pro carries with it one particular lens that packs a 40-megapixel punch. The four others are the regular lens, wide, the ultra-wide, and the periscope.

The entire camera setup of the P40 allows up 40x zoom in pictures with further zoom capabilities that are digitally manipulated.

On the other hand, the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra boasts a quad-camera setup. Its most powerful lens packs a whopping 108 megapixels.

Both of these smartphones are considered to have the most powerful cameras in terms of megapixels. That consideration may not last that long because of the surprise leak of Xiaomi’s 144 megapixel camera phone.

Enigmatic Xiaomi phone launch

Other than the capacity of its camera, not much is known yet about the new Xiaomi smartphone other than a planned launch sometime in the last quarter of this year.

It has been reportedly leaked that the main camera of the Xiaomi was a build on the 108 megapixel camera of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. There seems to be some truth to this as the supplier of the camera in Xiaomi’s new smartphone is indeed Samsung.

It is still unclear as to which Xiaomi smartphone series this camera will be installed on. But it has been reported and rumored that it will appear either in the Mi CC10 Pro or a Mi 10S Pro.

On the other hand, it may also completely be launched independently from the company’s existing series in order to make a new case for Xiaomi.

Xiaomi has quietly been a strong player in the high-end smartphone market. Its selling proposition of ultra power at a fraction of Samsung’s or Apple’s price has caught the market’s heart.
