Yakuza: Like A Dragon is coming sooner than expected. Sega’s upcoming title will come three days earlier on some platforms, launching November 10.
Yakuza: Like A Dragon is Sega’s must-play title, and it’s coming sooner than people expect. The game is now launching on November 10 for Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One. It will also come out the same day for Xbox Game Pass, PC, and PS4.
What’s curious, however, is that the game is coming later on the Playstation 5. The Sony console will have the game on March 2, 2021, a full five months after everywhere else.
Like A Dragon delayed for the Playstation 5
Sega set Like A Dragon to come out on November 13, but Microsoft noted that Xbox would come out on November 10. This move prompted Sega to move their release date, making their game a launch title.
What’s weird, however, is a later launch for the PS5. The delay is as far as March 2, 2021, five months further from the initial release. That is a lifetime in video game releases, especially if the competition is almost equal in specifications.
Sega is yet to detail why they delayed the launch for the Playstation. There are multiple likely scenarios in this situation, which will end up as speculation. There’s no clear information from Sega at the time of this writing.
For starters, Like A Dragon is likely a timed-exclusive for the Series X/S. It fits the timeline, which gives Microsoft an advantage. It also further adds to the possibility of Microsoft planning to buy Sega somehow.
The more realistic possibility, however, is that Sega isn’t done with optimizations for PS5. While the game is out in Japan for the PS4, next-gen graphics are separate development altogether.
Yakuza 7 will be different
Yakuza: Like A Dragon will be a departure from the brawler style action previous titles had. The game will have “dynamic RPG combat,” which is industry-speak for turn-based combat. Unlike its predecessors, the game will also have a party system.
The dub of the game will have some legends across it. For example, legendary actor George Takei will be Masumi Arakawa; the Arakawa family’s once feared patriarch. He will also mentor Ichiban into doing what’s right for the clan.
Like A Dragon will cost $60 at launch for the West, and it’s worth every penny. Sega is pushing the Yakuza franchise to create a similarly big following as Persona. They’re succeeding at the moment, with games like Yakuza 0 gaining a big following.
Yakuza: Like A Dragon will be out in a month and a half. For PC players, the system requirements for the game are out now.
