While the Snyder Cut had its moment of great battle and action sequences, some of them were amazing to watch. And surprisingly, the one that turned out shockingly good involved Mera fighting against Steppenwolf.
Remember that underwater scene where Amber Heard/Mera beats the hell out of Darkseid’s uncle?
She almost had him. Almost!
This version of Amber’s character was nowhere to be seen during 2017’s Justice League’s theatrical cut. She was only introduced briefly to later show up again in 2018’s Aquaman.
Okay, now coming back to Mera and her deadly avatar in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
When Steppenwolf attacks Atlantis to take one of the three Mother Boxes, he faces the guards alongside Mera. And as expected, he beats the security men.
But one person he isn’t able to defeat is Mera. When he throws her against a wall, she fights back using her iconic, signature power (popular in the comics).
Through her Hydrokinesis abilities, she gives a hard (and somewhat fatal) time to Steppenwolf. She bends the water and even pulls out the fluids from the inside of the villain.
And what happens afterward is unbelievable to witness.
A lot of blood gets drawn out of Steppenwolf’s body!
It means a lot, especially when it comes to the power level of Mera and what else she’s capable of doing. Zack Snyder’s Justice League has indeed established her as a significant character for the future of DCEU.
Will Amber Heard return as Mera in ‘Aquaman 2’?
Meanwhile, the circumstances are still translucent as far as Amber Heard’s comeback as Mera is concerned.
In the first part of 2018’s blockbuster, she portrayed a vital role. This highly praised her on-screen presence with Jason Momoa and individual action scenes.
While some fans don’t want her back, others will love to see her again as the Queen of Atlantis.
The legal battle situation against former husband and actor Johnny Depp resulted in a lot of controversies. And it seems like it will continue to grow even in the coming months.
Unless there’s an official word from Warner Bros., nothing can be confirmed regarding her return as Mera.
Coming back to Zack Snyder’s Justice League, it’s now available on HBO Max streaming service, along with the black-and-white version titled Justice Is Gray.
