The Call of Duty franchise is getting the zombies again as Call of Duty: Warzone sees the undead in hordes.
The mid-2000s has seen the peak for zombies in gaming whose depictions derives directly from popular culture—much to their adoption as additional content, even in games that are not even related to horror.
We have seen that first-hand with World at War, a game about war during the Second World War by Treyarch. Which, what would otherwise be a game involving soldiers fighting opposing soldiers, has managed to fit in Nazi zombies as a mini-game subsequently spawning a storyline that comes with a science fiction twist.
Then, there are, of course, those game titles whose centerpieces are zombies themselves—essentially expanding on the undead’s existing library of horror titles, much to the idea of becoming a trite trend. It is indeed fun putting “dead” to the undead until kingdom come. But too much of the same thing can get tiring along the way, even to the best of its kind.
The Undead are Back
But just as when many think that the zombie apocalypse in video games is on a standstill (not really), the living dead are rising once again and this time, entering a territory that is familiar with their presence. But, at the same time, in an altogether different platform.
If that sounds vague, let us be specific by reiterating that zombies are indeed finally heading to Call of Duty: Warzone.
As of writing, the aforementioned idea remains unofficial as the word for the coming content did not come from the developers themselves. Rather, it comes from a leak that sheds light on hidden contents that are nonetheless bound for later release in the game.
Leaked Information
Thanks to Twitter user and leaker, @ModernWarzone, we now know what are the things in store for the game.

The comeback of the living dead may not be any different from their previous iterations, mostly. But one of the variants in the modes getting introduced offers a little bit of twist to it. At least, in a manner not seen in gaming prior. Particularly, involving zombies that could return to their live human selves after taking the heart of their fallen prey.
We have yet to see how that bit of diversity in how it plays out. Nonetheless, it makes for an interesting premise one that could potentially open certain possibilities as a mini-feature to the game.
